Tsukiji Hongwanji is a directly-controlled temple of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji sect. The present building has a unique appearance, designed by Chuta Ito, an architect, that attracts people’s attention was completed in 1934. The inside of the hall has an impressive structure of a traditional Jodo Shinshu temple and a pipe organ is set at the back of the main building, which is rarely found in a temple. Stone animals, stained glass, and various other designs are found in the temple. The main building, gates and stone walls are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
