Namiyoke-inari-jinja Shrine
-
The guardian deity of Tsukiji protects against disasters.
-
Japan’s largest male ojishi (big lion), “Tenjo Ojishi,” and female ojishi, “Benzaiten Ohaguro Ojishi” are enshrined in the premises. During the shishi festival in June, people carry the temple’s Senkangu (very heavy) Mikoshi (portable shrine) and the pair of shishi around the town. There are uniquely-Tsukiji kuyozukas (mound to bury things as an expression of gratitude) such as sushi-zuka and tamago-zuka on the temple grounds.
